Holidays in Villabassa: The idyll on the banks of the river Rienza
Our lovely village of Villabassa is located in a picturesque valley bottom between Monguelfo and Dobbiaco – it is the perfect starting point for many different holiday activities in one of the most beautiful regions in South Tyrol. A vacation in Villabassa is always a unique nature experience: Foothills covered with pine forests smoothly merge into lush, green meadows crossed by the river Rienza. Our holiday resort is located on both sides of the river – to the south it offers a magnificent view of the Braies Dolomites, to the north on sunny hills, which hide the Casies Valley.
A famous alpine spa resort
The idyllic village by the river Rienza and the majestic panorama of our local mountains Monte Serla (2,378 m) and Picco di Vallandro (2,378 m) attracted holiday makers from many countries already in the 19th century. Emma Hellensteiner (1817 – 1904), a famous local hostess was called only “Frau Emma in Europe“, due to her great merits for South Tyrolean tourism. Before long, a tranquil holiday in Villabassa turned into a long summer vacation, and the village on 1,130 m turned into an alpine spa resort. Today Villabassa is known as the 1st “Kneipp für mich®” village in Italy with a beautiful, very popular outdoor park. If you plan a car-free spa vacation, you can easily reach us by train – or via the Pusteria Bike Path.
