Stoneman Trail Dolomites
… 120 km of pure mountain-bike emotion!
Colourful fields, green alpine pastures. Stone giants on the horizon wanting to be conquered by a bike: of course! Unforgettable nature experiences, exciting borderline experiences, sporty challenges: This is what the “Stoneman Trail Dolomiti” – the original – stands for. Here some figures: More than 4000 metres of difference in altitude, 120 km of length, two countries. Vitalhof Hirben, your hotel in Villabassa in Alta Pusteria, is a partner of the most spectacular mountain-bike adventure in the Dolomites. Here you’ll get to know what the Stoneman Trail Dolomiti is about, and what it means for our cycling guests.
Roland Stauder cycled the world as a mountain-bike professional for 21 years. The highlight of his remarkable career was the first place at the MTB Marathon World Cup, a first place at the Australian Crocodile Trophy, and a TransAlp win. Afterwards, things calmed down around the friendly guy from Val Pusteria. However, not because he did not meet the high requirements of the pro-sport, but because it was his decision to go “back to his roots”. He wanted to finally enjoy nature again, regardless of performance and technique, this was his biggest wish. A wish that became true with the Stoneman. A wish, that the former bike pro made come true for himself.
Mountain-bikers can start their personal Stoneman MTB adventure directly from Villabassa. Further details on the route are available at the reception. IMPORTANT: The starter package, which entitles you to participate, can simply be purchased at an attractive special rate here at Vitalhof Pension Hirben, your Stoneman partner business in Villabassa.
The trail leads along paved and unpaved tracks to the most beautiful places in the Sesto Dolomites, in Alta Pusteria and in the neighbouring province of Veneto. GPS & Co. will not tell you the way through the in part high-alpine terrain. The “Stone Men”, which are clearly visible along the route, will assume this task. But don’t worry: In addition to the required stamp arm-band and useful gift items, the starter package also includes a map with altitude profile for initial orientation.
The principle of the Stoneman Trail can be easily and quickly explained: There are five Stamp Points along the MTB route. You have to reach these points to give proof of the kilometres you’ve cycled. Once you’ve started, you have a maximum of 3 days to reach all checkpoints and to return to the point of departure of the tour. If you manage the tour in the pre-defined time, you will receive a hand-made award from Roland Stauder: The Stoneman Trophy!
Even if this tour is more about the nature experience than the sports competition, small and big cyclists will be rewarded for their efforts. “Finisher”, as we call those who conquer the varied cycling route, can look forward to the so-called Stoneman Trophy in three variations: Gold, silver and bronze. Which trophy you receive depends on the time you require for the MTB trail. Roland Stauder is convinced: Regardless of gold, silver bronze, it is finally not about the performance, but about the emotional experience the MTB route offers. A beautiful thought if we think about the performance pressure in our current society.
